River Island Plus Bardot Dress (Outfit August)

(English below)

Hei taas ja mukavaa uutta viikkoa!

Tänään on luvassa jotain ihan uutta, nimittäin vaate merkiltä jota en ollut aiemmin kokeillut. River Island on brittiläinen vaatemerkki, jonka plussamallisto on vielä melko tuore uutuus. Olen käynyt kevään mittaan tasaisin väliajoin kuolaamassa kyseistä mallistoa netissä, mutta korkeahkot hinnat ovat hillinneet ostohaluja. Nyt merkillä on kuitenkin menossa melko mukava ale, joten uskaltauduin tilaamaan pari vaatetta. Toinen niistä on pääroolissa tämänkertaisissa asukuvissa.

Mekko / dress - River Island Plus, UK 20
Kaulakoru / necklace - Gina Tricot
Kengät / shoes - Vagabond, EUR 42

Näin tämän raitamekon ensimmäistä kertaa joskus keväällä The World Through Kat's Eyes -blogin Katin Facebook-sivulla ja ihastuin siihen suuresti.

River Island Plus vaikuttaa ainakin tämän ostoksen perusteella lupaavalta tulokkaalta.

Onko River Island teille tuttu merkki?

P.s. Elokuussa on muuten luvassa paljon asukuvia, sillä päätin ottaa osaa Just Me, Leah -blogin Outfit August -haasteeseen.

In English: I've been wanting to try River Island Plus ever since it launched, but since I live in Finland and don't have the opportunity to try the clothes in store, and the prices aren't the cheapest, I was afraid of buying something online and then facing the hassle of international returns. However, at the moment they have a pretty good sale going on, so I decided to try my luck with a couple of cute sale items! The first of the two pieces I bought is the star of today's OOTD post.

I had been lusting after this dress for months, ever since I saw it on Kat's Facebook page. I think the original price was around 45 €, which felt a bit steep especially since I didn't know what the sizing was like and since I already have quite a few striped dresses. However, when I noticed this dress was on sale for 18 €, I knew I had to have it!

I very much like it. I love the bardot neckline, and the asymmetry in both the stripes and the hem. It is a very flattering dress, especially since it has ruching that kind of hides the tummy. I bought it in a size UK 20 and it's a perfect fit. Any smaller and it would have been way too short! As it is, I have to watch that the hem doesn't rise too high when I'm walking, but it does stay is place most of the time. (Remember I'm 5 ft 10 so I'm quite used to having issues like these with dresses.)

I also bought a tunic, which is a bit too big but doesn't look too bad, you will see that in a separate post. All in all, I'm quite impressed with RI Plus. It's nice that we have another plus-size retailer that provides clothes that are fashionable, but also designed with a plus-size woman's body in mind. The only thing I dislike (in addition to the prices, but the quality does seem good so those I can forgive) is that their sizing stops at UK 24. Hopefully they will extend their size range in the future.

What are your thoughts on River Island Plus?

Oh, and you can expect a lot more outfit photos from me this month, because I'm taking part in the Outfit August challenge created by Leah from Just Me, Leah.  This first entry was a review of a new dress, but my goal is to also include lots of old pieces and hopefully find the inspiration to style and accessorize them in new ways. It's going to be so much fun, so stay tuned! I won't promise to post every day, but probably a couple of times week at least.
